Man, 37, arraigned for allegedly stealing goods worth N1.5m


IKEJA—A 37-year- old man, Ambrose Nwakuma, was  arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, for stealing goods worth N1, 496,000. Nwakuma is facing a three-count charge of pretence, stealing and life threatening.
The prosecutor, Inspector Samson Ekikere, told the court  that the accused person allegedly committed the offence on May 17, 2011 about 12 noon at 23, Toyin Street, Ikeja. Lagos.
Ekikere said the accused person, on the aforesaid date, time and place did obtained and stole goods worth N1, 496, 000 pretending that he would pay back in a week’s time, but never did.
He said the offence is punishable under Section 284 of the Criminal Laws No. 11 Vol. 44, laws of Lagos State 2011.
Ekikere said the goods belonged to one Mrs. Bridget Eddo, who resides at 17, Joel Ogunnaike Streeet, GRA Ikeja. He also alleged that the accused threatened the life of Mrs Eddo telling her that her life will be terminated if she asked for the money for the goods.
He added  that the accused person acted contrary to section 56 of the criminal laws No. 11 Vol. 44 laws of Lagos State 2011.
When the charges were read, to him, he  pleaded not guilty to the three count charge leveled against him.  The presiding Magistrate Mrs Taiwo Akanni therefore granted him bail of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum who are gainfully employed.
She however, adjourned the hearing of the matter to August 22, 2012.
