Three-storey building collapses in Port Harcourt!

THERE was pandemonium in Port Harcourt on Saturday when a three-storey-building under construction collapsed.
Though no casualty was recorded in the incident, a part of the building located at No. 3, Ekere Street, Rumuobikani, fell on a house close to it and destroyed some household property.

Residents, who were already asleep when the incident happened, woke up to witness the level of damage caused by the collapse of the building.
One of the residents, Mr. Cliff Ejims, narrated how his wife called him in the wee hours to say how she and the children escaped death.

Ejims, an occupant of a house located at No. 4, Ekere Street, was not at home when the incident happened.
He said he directed his wife to evacuate their three children from the house immediately, before removing his car that was parked inside the compound.

An eyewitness, who identified himself as Daniel, said the incident, which happened around 1am, woke up many residents living close to the building.

Daniel stated that some neighbours living in a house close to the collapsed building were lucky to have escaped death during the incident, adding that the impact of the falling blocks could have killed or injured any person.

Another resident, who craved anonymity, blamed the collapse of the house on the use of sub-standard building materials like cement and sand.
Confirming the incident, the Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Umesi Emenike, said no casualty was recorded.
