Gunmen kill baby, parents, brother in Jos
One-year-old baby girl, her parents and
sibling were murdered by gunmen in Chaha District, Vwang, Jos South
Local Government, Plateau State on Monday night. Sources in the area told our
correspondent that the gunmen invaded the home of 42-year-old Yakubu Illiya at
about 10pm, shooting him, his wife (Lyop, 38), his son (Nuhu,
10) and baby Peace.
Illiya’s 14-year-old daughter, Alice, who was also shot during the attack,is lucky to be alive.
The invaders were said to have broken into the house when the Illiyas were about going to bed.
Illiya’s daughter, Patience, who
survived the attack, told reporters on Tuesday the murderers spoke
impeccable English throughout the raid.
She said, “When they came, I heard one
of them calling Nuhu’s name. They used something to break the door and
when they eventually gained entrance, I tried to hide behind the door,
but they shot her, I hid behind the wall at the back of the house and
that was why I survived the attack.”
She said she did not know the fate of
her parents thereafter, adding that it was when one of her uncles
arrived at the scene that they discovered that her parents and her
siblings had been shot dead.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr. Pam Ayuba, who confirmed the incident, described it as “a dastardly act”.
He called on security agencies to intensify patrol in the affected areas.
Spokesman for the police in the state, Mr. Emmanuel Abuh, also confirmed the killings.

Also, about six persons were
reportedly killed and seven others seriously injured when suspected
Fulani herdsmen stormed a local bar, popularly called Burukutu
joint, at Gindin Akwati in Gashish district of Barkin Ladi local
Government.
The gunmen were said to have opened fire on those inside the building.
