Civil defence nabs 5 over petroleum products’ adulteration in Enugu

Enugu—Enugu State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested five men for alleged adulteration of petroleum products in Enugu. Parading the suspects in Enugu yesterday, the Commandant, Mr Nathaniel Ubong, said the arrest was made in
line with the mandate of the corps to provide protection to critical government infrastructure and property of individuals.

Ubong said a team of the Anti-vandal and Arms Squad of the command arrested the five suspects while adulterating petroleum on December 20, at Emene on the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway.

He said that men of the command on patrol suspected illegal activities relating to petroleum adulteration at a site owned by Don Ventures at Emene and made the arrest.

“We swooped on the location because the place is not a refinery, filling station or depot.
“Part of our duty is to ensure that the industry is sanitised and that petroleum products are safe for consumption.”

He said the command would continue to investigate the suspects, adding that the corps could not fold its arms and watch unpatriotic Nigerians take laws into their hands.

He assured that the command would do its best to sanitise the industry by ensuring that products purchased were genuine, adding that this would help individuals and companies.
NAN reports that the suspects were arrested with three trucks loaded with petroleum products.
