Police uncover bombs in Jos community
Police in Jos on Easter Monday averted a
tragedy when they uncovered some Improvised Explosive Devices and
bomb-making materials in a shop at Anguwan Rogo, a Hausa dominated
suburb in Jos North Local Government of Plateau State.
This came as Aten people of Ganawuri in
Riyom Local Government of the state dissociated themselves from the
clash between Atakar and Fulani herdsmen, which claimed more than 30
lives.
The unearthing of the bomb followed a
complaint to the police by the traders after the occupant locked the
shop after the expiry of his tenancy.
Among the items uncovered by the police
were an some IEDs, cables, three bags of fertilisers, canisters of tear
gas, a police life jacket, uniforms belonging to an Aid group, a
drilling machine and remote control devices.
A community leader, Alhaji Yusuf Rabiu,
who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday, said the
shop owner had reported that his tenant had refused to vacate the shop
even after his tenancy had expired.
He said when the tenant was not
forthcoming, the shop owner invited the police to take inventory of the
shop, adding that it was in the process that the IEDs and materials were
found.
Rabiu added, “When we got the report, we alerted the police and the bomb disposal squad came and took them away.”
A source in the police anti-bomb squad in the state told our correspondent that the IEDs were defused immediately.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adigun Salawu, said investigations were ongoing into the incident were ongoing.
Meanwhile, Aten people, through the
Chairman of Aten Development Association, Mr. Chom Bagu, on Tuesday in
Jos, linked the fight between the Atakar and the Fulani in Ganawuri to
an earlier attack on Atakar people in Fadan Atakar of Kaduna State.
He said the role of the Aten people was only mediatory since both the Atakar and Fulani in Ganawuri were tenants in the area.
Bagu also denied the report that Aten people assisted the Atakar in the fight against the Fulani.
