Fela reawakens at the Broadway Musical Concert

Having performed the Broadway Musical version for over seven years, the award-winning cast of Fela the Broadway Musical performed a three-day concert version of the show which consisted solely of songs and dances that were featured in the Broadway Musical.

Conceived by iconic Bill T. Jones, the three days concert explored Fela’s controversial life as an artist, political activist and revolutionary musician. It chronicled a series of his most captivating songs, presenting a provocative hybrid of concert, dance and musical theatre. The concert which commenced on Thursday April 13th and ended on Saturday, April 15th, 2017, at the Convention Centre of Eko Hotel and suites, treated afro-beat music lovers and enthusiasts from all over the world to unforgettable nights of classic afro-beat music and dance in memory of the late afro-beat maestro, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Packaged by connoisseurs of world class entertainment, Smooth FM, the concert which attracted the attendance of Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lagos State, Mr Steve Ayorinde, media personality, Bisi Olatilo, afro-pop singer, Sound Sultan and many others, gave afro-beat lovers a nostalgic feeling with a beautiful theatrical stage performance of all Fela’s songs. It presented a dynamic perspective of Fela’s original stage performances to the audience as it amplified the musical elements and tunes from the Broadway Musical shows, leaving the crowd with a feeling of nostalgia for the music legend. The finale night of the event saw the audience clamouring for more as they chanted “Give us more” when the show eventually ended.
