New order in Edo as polls break cleavages

It is certainly a new beginning in Edo State, the outcome of last Saturday’s polls has broken down all the ethnic and political cleavages as Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who was declared the winner of the election, was full of praises for the people.
While the PDP Publicity Secretary, Matthew Urhoghide, in a statement, explained that the PDP had accepted the outcome of the election and congratulated Oshiomhole, its Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih told The Guardian in an interview yesterday that the PDP had rejected the results and it is collating the “facts and figures” on the sharp practices perpetrated by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) during the polls.
In a statement by his spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security services for ensuring that the election was free and fair, stressing that it was in line with his administration’s commitment to continually strengthen democracy in Nigeria through the establishment of a more credible electoral system.
It was not clear last night whether the President’s action had put paid to the threat by the Edo chapter of the PDP to challenge Oshiomhole’s victory at the tribunal.
Also, the Chief of Staff to the President, Mike Oghiadomhe, has congratulated Oshiomhole on  his re-election.
Textiles workers and other Labour leaders in Kaduna yesterday congratulated Oshiomhole for his being re-elected for another term in office and urged him to use the next four years to consolidate on his achievements.
Vice President of NLC and Secretary-General of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN), Issa Aremu, commended the people of the state for the successful conduct of the governorship election and all the political parties for allowing the electoral process to run through in spite of the obvious challenges.
